Two Tibetan leaders held ahead of Democracy day in Nepal

Dharamshala, August 30: The police on Monday arrested two leaders of New Age Network (NAN), the organization spearheading Tibetan movement in the capital, on the eve of the Tibetans´ Democracy day due on September 2, according to media reports.

Beijing Tightens up Control over Monasteries and Mosques

(August 25, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) -- Acting jointly, China's Ministry of Public Security and the United Front Work Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China have tightened up their control over the Buddhist monasteries in the Tibetan areas of China and over the mosques in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region. While the tightened supervisory measures over the mosques in Xinjiang have preceded the onset of the holy fasting period of the Muslims, the measures in the Tibetan areas have followed the recent high-profile visit of the Party/Government designated Panchen Lama to Lhasa and other areas in Tibet. A note recorded by me on June 17,2010, on the Panchen Lama's visit to Tibet under the title "Bringing up their Panchen Lama".

Tibetan Mastiff Worth $600,000 in China

Tibetan Mastiff, a dog that can reach 190 pounds, is becoming quite pricey on the Chinese market. Earlier in 2009, a Tibetan Mastiff named Yangtze River Number Two was sold to a Chinese millionaire for $600,000. The 31-inch-tall Tibetan Mastiff, weighing nearly 150 pounds, might have become the world's most expensive dog.
